PA CLE Board Announces New Changes

0

The Pennsylvania Continuing Legal Education Board, early this year, announced the first major changes in its CLE requirements since 1996.  Attorneys practicing law in Pennsylvania will now be required to take two (2) credit hours of ethics.  Additionally, Pennsylvania attorneys will now be allowed to fulfill six (6) credits hours through alternate delivery methods annually.  The overall number of CLE credit hours has not been changed and stands at twelve (12) credit hours.  Previously, attorneys were only required to take one hour of ethics per compliance period and were limited to fours (4)  hours of CLE through alternative delivery methods.

These changes to the CLE Board’s rules and regulations will take effect with CLE compliance periods that have requirement deadlines in 2015.

“These updates to the Rules and Regulations for CLE in Pennsylvania recognize the changing needs and realities of modern law practice.”

Kenneth Argentieri, CLE Board Chair

The increase in CLE hours available for alternative delivery methods should bring a big smile to thousands of Pennsylvania attorneys.  The convenience and cost savings of taking courses online and on-demand has seen a dramatic increase in popularity in the last several years.  Several states like California and New York actually allow their attorneys to fulfill their entire compliance requirements through online courses.
